Church prayer bulletin

December 2009

Please place the following weekly prayer requests in your church bulletins on the designated Sunday, and if possible pray about the need during that same service. We also encourage the entire church to follow the weekly pastor/church prayer schedule of the senior pastor.

Thank you for your prayer support!

Monthly prayer focus

The world can only celebrate a holiday in December – a rather empty and meaningless holiday. Without Christ there really is no Christmas, just a holiday. Pray for hearts that will be quick to celebrate and anxious to share the gift of Christ this Christmas.

December 6

15 “Bright” years of ministry

This morning the congregation at Gateway Community Church in Canora is recognizing Pastor Greg and Carolyn Bright for 15 years of ministry as their pastor. Pray that God will be honoured in this celebration and that Director of Church Ministries Ralph and his wife Grace Gliege have an encouraging ministry today to the Brights and to the congregation.

Advent Remembrance Service “reaches” out

Pray for the Advent Remembrance Service at West Portal Church in Saskatoon this evening. Many community and church people will be involved. Community participants will be invited to a thirteen week Grief Share support group beginning January 12. This support group is a Harvest Saskatchewan – Project Reach YOUR World partnership with West Portal.

First meeting of the “PODs”

Pray for Brian Wiens and Dwayne Barkman on Thursday as they lead PODs made up of twelve pastors and leaders in the first of three studies around the book The Tangible Kingdom. This first PODs will take place in Saskatoon from 1:00–5:00 p.m. The focus will be on understanding changes in churches as it relates to the modern to postmodern shift.

December 13

An invitation to prayer

Pray for Director of Harvest Saskatchewan Dwayne and his wife Irma Barkman as they prepare for and connect with Saskatchewan churches taking their next steps in the Refocusing process.

Four week adventure for Parliament

Tomorrow evening Director of Church Ministries Ralph Gliege is giving a devotional and sharing a Conference Report with the Parliament Community Church Elders in Regina. Pray that this meeting might serve to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds”. (Hebrews 10:24).

This fall a major exterior water supply line burst and flooded the crawlspace under the sanctuary. This resulted in the need to close the building for at least four weeks starting on November 25 so proper clean-up and restoration can take place. As the congregation meets in a alternate location, pray that this inconvenience will not be allowed to become a spiritual interruption and that God would use the opportunity for a missional injection!

December 20

Support for our moderators

Pray for Harvest Saskatchewan Team leaders who are planning a church moderators’ POD in the New Year. Pray especially for Howie Wall and Wayne Harms as they give leadership to this support opportunity.

They’re here!

Praise the Lord for Brian and Rachel Ray, who began pastoral ministry this week at Parkland Community Church in Yorkton. Praise the Lord also for the provision of a house-sitting arrangement which gives the Rays opportunity and time to find suitable housing. Pray that God would direct them to a house where they will feel right at home.

December 27

What’s next?

Twelve pastors and leaders were at the Congress on evangelism and church planting in Calgary in November. Pray for these leaders as they continue to discern for themselves and their congregations their next missional steps. Pray for our churches across Saskatchewan to see and take opportunities for harvest this next year.

He was faithful . . . let us be faithful!

Praise the Lord for his faithfulness throughout this past year. Pray that each of us will be faithful to him as we enter into a New Year.

If you have something that you’d like prayer support for from your fellow member churches of the Saskatchewan Conference, please forward it to the website coordinator.
